Which AI Tools ChatGPT and Gemini Recommend in Japanese

When a Japanese user asks an AI assistant “which AI tool should I use for this?”, which products get named? Each week we ask ChatGPT and Gemini, in Japanese and with web search turned on, to recommend AI tools in 30 categories, using 4 different phrasings per category. We then count which tools appear in each answer's recommendation list. This measures how often AI assistants name a tool, not search engine rankings. This page is the English edition of our Japanese report; the figures are generated from the same data.

Key figures

Method and limitations

  • We ask ChatGPT and Gemini with web search enabled, 4 Japanese phrasings per category (prompt version v2). The job runs automatically every Wednesday morning (Japan time); the data shown was collected on 2026-10-14. This is week 2 of the series.
  • We ask each assistant to end its answer with a one-line list in the form “Recommendations: A / B / C”. Only that line is matched mechanically against tool names in the AI PICKS catalog. Tools mentioned only in passing in the answer body are not counted.
  • Tools not listed on AI PICKS are not counted. Names that could refer to more than one listed tool are left out.
  • Answers vary by day, account and location. Do not read a single round as a ranking; look at the trend across weeks.
  • When we change the wording of the questions, the series breaks; we record the prompt version (currently v2).
